Extravadance,
a popular dance show at BYU-Idaho featuring 80 student performers, will run
Dec. 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium. An additional Saturday
matinee will be performed at 5 p.m.
Tickets
to Extravadance are available for $1 for BYU-Idaho students and $6 for the
general public at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office.
The
six-member Bluegrass Band, which tours with Folkdance USA, will perform in
a 30-minute pre-show performance.
Extravadance,
a extravaganza of music and dance, features a variety of music and dance
types including ballroom, folk and contemporary, says department chair
Charles West.
“It’s
fast moving, and there is such a great variety in the dancing from one
number to the next,” says West. “The tempos vary a lot – it can go from a
spiritual type number to a real peppy one.”
Monica
Webb, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene and a member of the Contemporary Dance
Theatre for two years, says Extravadance not only opens her mind as a
dancer to the culture of the art but can be enlightening for the audience
as well.
“It’s
a good experience for the audience to feel the different types and styles
of dance that are out there. They each bring their own feeling to a
person,” she says.
Extravadance
includes 24 members of the World Dance Performers, 16 members of CDT, 20
members in Ballroom Dance Company and an additional 20 on the backup
ballroom team. # # #
