REXBURG,
Idaho— The Dance
Department at Brigham Young University-Idaho will host its annual dance
festival Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Hart Auditorium.
The
competition will feature college students enrolled in dance classes, as
well as other BYU-Idaho students and youth of all ages.
The
youth divisions will be divided in to four groups. The youngest group, the
Pee Wee division, will be made up of dancers 9 years old and under,
Pre-teens from 10-12 years old, Juniors from 13-15, and Youth 16-18.
While
the largest group of dancers will be the 1,300 BYU-Idaho students, the
other groups of dancers have been growing each of the eight years the
competition has been happening at the school. This year Shawn Fisher, a
BYU-Idaho dance instructor who is organizing the event, expects 100
students from three other colleges 200 local youth to join the competition.
Styles
will range from swing to cha cha, and each style
and age category will be further divided by the skill level of the
participants.
All registration for the event
will be done at the door beginning at 8 a.m., with
the competitions beginning at 7 p.m. Registration is $10 per person or $8
for Pee Wee contestants.
Spectators will also have their
time to shine, as a free dance period will be open to the audience between
sessions of competition.
