The
a cappella group Tonic Sol-Fa from Minnesota will be featured at the winter
semester’s Welcome Back Concert and Dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan.
10, in the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Jointly
sponsored by the Center Stage Performing
Arts Series and the Dance Board, this will be the first show of the new
year. Tickets are $4 for BYU-Idaho students and $8 for the general public.
Tickets can be bought at the ticket office or by calling 496-2230 and
online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
Tonic
Sol-Fa’s four voices have gained them
international acclaim gradually over the past seven years. The group has
been described as “a vocal kaleidoscope of sound unique to the human
voice” by the New York Times. The quartet has opened up for everyone
from Lonestar and Shawn Colvin to “Weird”
Al Yankovic.
Their
sound can’t be described as either boy band slick or remedial. The
improvisations and passion keep the audience content in their seats. And
the spontaneous interaction, inventive production and impromptu
performances from audience members keep the show lively and fun.
“If
you’re looking for a stoic, non-energetic, non-humorous concert,”
say Tonic Sol-Fa members, “don’t look
here!”
In
1997 they were voted into the Upper Midwest Music Hall of Fame. In 1999
Tonic Sol-Fa averaged 250 shows and sold 80,000
albums independently. The National Association of Collegiate Activities
voted them one for the top five “Entertainers of the Year”
three years in a row.
The
concert will be followed by a dance.
