The
newly launched Spirit Week at BYU-Idaho will be held Oct. 13-18 and will
feature a variety of events and activities geared for students, employees,
community members and friends of the university.
With
the recent dedication of the Jacob
Spori Building,
the week’s events will center around the
theme “Celebrating the Spori.”
Several events highlighting the Communication and Art Departments, which
are now housed in the Spori Building, will also
be held, including a reception for all past and present communication and
art majors on Friday at 5 p.m. and then again Saturday from 3-5 p.m. in the
Spori Building.
The
annual Miss BYU-Idaho Pageant will be held in the Hart Auditorium Thursday
at 7:30 p.m. and will be free of
charge. The pageant will feature the talent and poise portions from the 12
finalists, as well as the BYU-Idaho ballroom dance team and a finalist
group from Guitars Unplugged.
The
Center Stage Performing Arts Series will present The Ten Tenors, a popular
group of singers from Australia
featuring a variety of music ranging from classic opera to classic rock.
The concert will be Friday at 7:30 p.m.
in the Hart Auditorium with tickets $10 and $8 for general public and $2
for currently enrolled BYU-Idaho students.
Following
the concert at 9 p.m., there will
be a traditional torch lighting and parade, complete with a fireworks
display in Viking Stadium. The BYU-Idaho pep band will provide the music
for the event.
Spirit
Week will continue Saturday, beginning with an emeritus breakfast for the
class of 1953. The Alumni Association will also host a reception for the
50-year reunion from 3-5 p.m. in
the Spori
Building. For more information

A
group photo open to all students and alumni will be taken on the south side
of the Spori
Building at 10 a.m. Following, Scroll alumni will gather for a
photo on the north side of the buildings. Photos will be available for
purchase through the Alumni Association.
A
luncheon hosted by President David A. Bednar will
be held at noon in the Manwaring Center West Ballroom. He will share the
vision of BYU-Idaho and what’s taking place on campus. The cost will
be $7 for the general public and $4 for BYU-Idaho students.
The
first-ever Spirit Week Spectacular, an event showcasing the talent of
BYU-Idaho campus ensembles, students and special guest alumni performers
will be held in the Hart Auditorium at 6 p.m. and will be $6 for the
general public and $3 for students.
Following
the Spectacular, a formal student dance will be held in the Manwaring Center,
Taylor and Hart
Buildings. Tickets purchased at
the ticket office will be $15 with pictures and $10 without, and at the
door for $20 with pictures and $15 without.
The
BYU-Idaho Theatre Department will present “The Crucible,”
Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
in the Kirkham Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for
general public and $1 for currently enrolled BYU-Idaho students.
The
BYU-Idaho Competitive Sports League will host a number of sporting events
throughout the week, including baseball at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday and
Friday; softball at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; volleyball
Friday at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.; swimming Friday at 3 p.m.; and football
Saturday at 11:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. A 50-lap relay race between student wards
and alumni will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.
in Viking Stadium.
