First Spectacular to showcase

talents of students and alumni

Brigham Young University-Idaho will host its first Spirit Week Spectacular Saturday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium.

A variety of talent will perform during the Spectacular, including student academic ensembles such as Jazz Alliance, Vocal Union, Women’s Choir, International Folk Dancers and the Ballroom Dance Team.

From the student talent area, the barbershop quartet Optimus Prime and a finalist from Guitars Unplugged will also perform. Swingset, the BYU-Idaho faculty jazz group, will also be featured in the program as well as a Broadway duet from BYU-Idaho students.

Two alumni of Ricks College will perform – Cassy Child, a professional actress, vocalist and school teacher from Provo, Utah, and Russell Stenquist of Idaho Falls, a pop singer who has performed professionally.

“It’s an great opportunity for students, faculty and alumni performers to use their talents to convey an entertaining and uplifting message that reflects the spirit of our campus,” said Russell Bice, director of the program.

The program will also highlight the theme of Spirit Week, “Celebrating the Spori,” with an opening multi-media presentation accompanied by the BYU-Idaho Women’s Choir singing “They, The Builders of the Nation” and also a special finale saluting the new Spori Building that has stood as a symbol of the heritage and spirit of Ricks.

The Spectacular will be an ongoing event produced each semester in conjunction with Spirit Week.

Tickets are $6 and $5 for the general public and $3 and $2 for currently enrolled BYU-Idaho students.
