REXBURG,
Idaho–The Eliza R. Snow
Society for the Performing and Visual Arts at Brigham Young
University-Idaho will hold its annual fall program Friday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham
Auditorium.
Snow
Society members will attend a concert by BYU-Idaho’s Vocal Union and
Sound Alliance. Admission to the concert is free for Snow Society members
and tickets can be reserved by contacting Gracie Hill at 496-3301 or by
email at hillg@byui.edu.
Prior
to the performance from 6 to 6:45 p.m., BYU-Idaho faculty will be
giving guided tours of the new Jacob
Spori Building
beginning at the south doors. Following the concert, a reception with
refreshments will be held in the Kirkham foyer.
Established
in 1996, the Snow Society has helped to advance the arts at BYU-Idaho by
providing financial assistance for the Art, Dance, Interior Design, Music
and Theatre departments.
The
society is primarily made up of community patrons from Pocatello
to Island Park
who love the arts and pledge financial support for
scholarships, specialized equipment, instruments and quality pianos, says Vonnie Lue Broulim, Snow Society president.
“It’s
a wonderful thing to be able to help talented and gifted students achieve
their full potential in the arts,” she says. “Without help, a
lot of students wouldn’t be able to accomplish these goals.
It’s very rewarding to see the lives of the students being
helped.”
The
Snow Society Board is made up of 17 community members and several BYU-Idaho
employees who help in the promotion of the arts. Besides providing students
with scholarships, the society has helped fund new dance floor surfaces,
lighting equipment, sound equipment and various musical instruments.
“Development
and performance of artistic expression requires a great deal of financial
support. Much of what we do by way of performances on and off campus is a
direct result of financial resources secured through the Snow
Society,” says Kevin Brower, BYU-Idaho music department faculty and
director of the Collegiate Singers and Vocal Union.
For
more information about joining the Snow Society, call Hill at the phone
number above. The minimum annual donation to become a member is $100.
