More
than 200 vocalists will perform in the annual BYU-Idaho Harvest Choirfest Friday, Oct. 24, at 6 and 8:30 p.m. in the Barrus
Concert Hall of the Snow Center
for the Performing Arts.
Tickets
are $2 for the public and $1 for current BYU-Idaho students. They may be
purchased by calling the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at 496-2230, or online at
www.byui.edu/tickets.
The
concert, which is in its eleventh year, will feature music from the
BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir and
Vocal Union.
Directed
by Kevin Brower, the Collegiate Singers will showcase a sampling of their
full program entitled “American Bridges,” which features
composers and music spanning North and South America.
“As
with all of the choral organizations at BYU-Idaho, Collegiate Singers
focuses on learning and performing music that uplifts, entertains and
inspires. Part of our mission is to communicate a meaningful life-feeling
experience through music,” Brower said.
The
Women’s Choir, directed by Eda Ashby, will
perform a variety of numbers, including “Choose That Good Part,”
a song written by Ashby and Alice Johnson, which was sung at the last
General Relief Society Meeting of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints.
Randall
Kempton will conduct the Men’s Choir, which will perform music
ranging from hymn arrangements to popular folk songs.
“It's
always exciting to hear the sound of 100 men singing together. They have a
great spirit about them as well as being fine musicians,” Kempton
said. “And you never know exactly what they're going to do. We always
try to have a surprise or two up our sleeves.”
Vocal
Union, a select group of 12 talented singers, will
also perform a variety of pieces including vocal jazz, contemporary a
cappella and other types of uplifting and inspiring music.
