The
Harp Ensemble at Brigham Young University-Idaho will present a free recital
Saturday, Nov. 8,
at 7:30 p.m. in
the Barrus Concert Hall of the Snow
Center for the Performing Arts.
Concert dress is requested and tickets are not required.
The
Harp Ensemble, directed by Shari Pack of the BYU-Idaho Music Department, is
made up of students who are not music majors, but love the harp and have
learned to play together.
The
recital will include a variety of pieces including “Amaryllis”
by Ghys, “On Wings of Music” by
Mendelssohn, “Rondeau” by Mouret, “Amazing Grace,” “Rachmaninoff
Rhapsody,” and four melodies from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S.
Pinafore.”
Harpist
Leslie Mielke and violinist Angela Carlson, both
of the Idaho Falls Symphony, will perform in the recital. Two BYU-Idaho
students, Greg Blankenbehler, a tenor from Sunnyvale,
Calif., and Adam Sparhawk,
and organist from Rexburg, will also be featured.
“Audiences
enjoy hearing the lovely sounds of the harp, and enjoy seeing the
interaction between ensemble members and also the various instruments,”
said Pack
Following
the concert, those in attendance will be invited to come on stage and try
the harps themselves. Members of the Harp Ensemble will stay on the stage
to answer questions and help audience members play a few notes on the
harps.
