Two former Ricks College athletes

inducted into Hall of Fame

 

 

            Two former Ricks College athletes have been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame Thursday at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

            They include volleyball player Diana Berrett Wilson of Rexburg and football player Grant Campbell of Sandy, Utah. The Alumni Association awards were presented Tuesday at a luncheon by university President David A. Bednar.

            Originally from Rigby, Wilson (Class of 1992) participated on the volleyball team while attending Ricks College. She was on the national All-Tournament Team during 1990 when Ricks finished second nationally. That team recorded a school record of 54 wins. She as also First Team All-American in 1991 and named most valuable player at the Ricks College Classic. She was the recipient of the Betty Hatch Ideal Female Athlete Award and the Ricks College Education Department Women of the Year in 1991.

            Wilson graduated from Idaho State University in 1994 and went on to teach math at Madison High School in Rexburg from 1994-1997. She was the freshman volleyball coach for the Madison Junior High School volleyball team during 1997-2002. 

            She married George Wilson in 1993 and they are parents of four children and she is currently a full-time mother.

            Campbell (Class of 1980) entered Ricks College in 1977 after a successful high school athletic career in football, baseball and basketball.

            During fall semester 1977 he was named All Conference Punter with an 81-yard punt during the Ricks vs. BYU Junior Varsity football game. Campbell averaged just under 55 yards a punt in that game, a record that stood for 20 years.

            After serving a church mission to the Switzerland Zurich Mission, Campbell returned to Ricks College for another successful year in football.  He was the 1980 All Conference Punter, 1st Team All American Punter and named to the Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Junior Colleges. 

            During winter semester 1980 he signed a letter of intent with the University of Nebraska; where he participated in two Orange Bowls. Then in 1983 he signed as a free agent and played with the Buffalo Bills. He and his wife, Laura, now live in Sandy, Utah, and have eight children.
