Fall classes to start Wednesday at BYU-Idaho

REXBURG - Fall classes will get under way Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

Students will be moving into dorms and apartments during the Labor Day weekend and many student activities are planned. These activities include orientation sessions for new students and parents, a service project involving the assembly of hygiene kits for LDS Humanitarian Services Tuesday afternoon, and a free traditions showcase Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium that is open to the public.

Although the official enrollment count will not be available until the second week of school, early estimates for fall show there will be about 500 more students attending compared to the same time last year. The current estimate is 10,667 students (full time equivalent).

Upper level classes for mechanical engineering and social work baccalaureate degrees will come on line during the 2003-04 school year, bringing the number of baccalaureate degrees offered to 49.

Twenty-nine additional faculty members have been hired to meet the demand of the increased number of classes and to fill vacancies from retirement.

Construction remains in full swing, even with the completion of the Spori Building and the addition to the Austin Building. Other major building projects include the Benson Building addition, Student Health and Counseling Center, Thomas E. Ricks Building and married student housing complex.
