BYU-Idaho students to hold Service Week

University students will focus their efforts on serving others during Service Week at BYU-Idaho Oct. 6-11.

Lindsie Davis, a student who has been organizing the week, says some of the activities that the students will become involved with will have repercussions throughout the semester. Volunteers will be recruited to work at the Boy Scout merit badge powwow to be held later in the month and volunteers will also register for Project Imagine, which involves mentoring students in after-school activities at local elementary and middle schools.

Robert H. Smoot, who is responsible for raising funds for humanitarian services with the LDS Foundation, will speak Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel.

The week will also feature several service projects. The first will be painting pumpkins on Monday from 1-3 p.m. for the Rexburg Nursing Center. Students will make toy cars for underprivileged children through the Happy Factory program from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and put together school kits Thursday after Smoot’s talk.

The monthly Serving with Smiles service project will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

More information on Service Week, contact the Leadership and Service Institute in Manwaring 380 or call 496-2596.
