Brigham
Young University-Idaho dance groups will be featured in Extravadance,
which runs from Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 20-22, in the Kirkham Auditorium.
Shows
start at 7:30 p.m. with an
additional matinee performance Nov. 22 at 5
p.m. Tickets for Extravadance may be
purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230 or at www.byui.edu/tickets.
Seats are $6 for the public and $1 for current BYU-Idaho students.
Extravadance features 20 members of the Ballroom Dance
Company, 16 members of the Contemporary Dance Theatre and 12 members of the
World Dance Performers. The BYU-Idaho Bluegrass Band will perform in a
30-minute pre-show performance.
The
concert features a wide range of dance including classic ballroom, modern,
swing, cha cha, mambo, waltz, cabaret, and a
variety of ethnic dances from Israel,
Russia, Mexico,
Ireland and
the United States.
“There’s
always a great variety of dances and the show is very inspirational and
fun. It’s a great opportunity to not only see the cultural diversity,
but the diversity and unity of dance in its many forms,” says Charles
West, Dance Department chairman and World Dance Performers director.
Sarah
Murdoch, a senior from Kennewick, Wash.
and a member of the Contemporary Dance Theatre for four years, says, “There’s
no other show you combine such a wide variety of dance and have it come off
so good. There’s a lot of energy from each person and we all unite to
bring the show together in a way audiences really enjoy.”
