Several
current department chairs at Brigham Young University-Idaho will be getting
a break this January as they are replaced by other faculty members.
The
academic changes will take place because of rotation of positions. “We
believe in rotating our academic leaders,” says Max Checketts, academic vice president. Department chairs
at BYU-Idaho typically serve five years in that capacity.
The
changes are as follows: Paul Cox will replace Linda Long, who is retiring,
as Math Department chair; John Zirker will
replace Gary Gardner as Physical Education Department chair; Craig Bell
will replace Kevin Shiley as Business Management
Department chair; Mel Dewsnup will replace Greg Blaser as Agronomy Department chair; and Grover Wray
will replace Steve Stokes as Sociology Department chair.
Chris
Lowry, who was the associate dean for the College
of Religion and Social
Sciences, will replace Ron Jacques as chair of the Psychology Department,
and David Pulsipher will take over as associate
dean.
Because
of the demand for more religion teachers, Animal Science Department chair
Bill Torngren will be moved back to the Religion
Department. Ted Gashler, a former mission
president in Samara, Russia,
with extensive experience in agriculture, has been asked to serve as the
new Animal Science Department chair.
