Christmas Tree Lane to begin Thursday

The annual Christmas Tree Lane, a display of Christmas trees decorated by various student organizations, wards and housing units, will begin Thursday, Dec. 5, and will run through Monday, Dec. 16.

The trees, decorated around the theme “Christmas Around the World” to coordinate with downtown Rexburg’s international theme, will be on display on the second floor of the Manwaring Center in the lobby between the East and West Ballrooms. Kris Fillmore, enrichment director, expects approximately 35 entries this year, which will be judged Dec. 4.

“One small part for the organizations is that it gives them a chance to earn some money for the group if they win the prizes,” Fillmore said. “But it also gives them the opportunity to work together to do a fun project and bring the Christmas spirit to campus.”

Santa will visit on Dec. 9 from 6:30-9 p.m. Additionally, a nativity scene and six-foot dancing Santa will be on display. Several musical groups, including harp ensembles, a tuba quartet, a chamber brass group, a saxophone quartet, and jazz combos, will play during the days of Christmas Tree Lane, a new feature this year.

“The smell of the trees and the whole atmosphere – students love it,” Fillmore said. “It gives them a touch of home away from home.” # # #
