Violinist
Ted Ashton, who is director of violin studies at BYU-Idaho, will present a
free recital Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
in the Recital Hall of the Snow Center
for the Performing Arts at BYU-Idaho.
Accompanied
on the piano by Stephen Allen of the music department, he will perform
works by Hindemith, Grieg, Debussy and a duet by
Bach with his daughter, Heidi Farr, on the violin.
His
son, Brian Ashton, will also perform a piece by Dvorak for the cello
accompanied by Doug Pew.
“We
will play a variety of music styles,” he says. “The interplay
between piano and violin, particularly in the two sonatas, becomes
wonderful collaboration of contrasts and similarities.”
Ashton
attended BYU in Provo, Utah,
earning a bachelor’s degree in music education and later taught in
public schools in Provo and Logan
for more than 20 years. In Logan
he earned a master’s degree in education at Utah
State University.
Coming to BYU-Idaho in 1998, he is currently conducting the BYU-Idaho
Chamber Orchestra.
