REXBURG,
Idaho — The Brigham Young University-Idaho Department of Theatre will
present “Over the River and Through the Woods” by Joe DiPietro starting Nov. 11 in the drama theatre of the
Eliza R. Snow Center for the Performing Arts.
The
play will run Nov. 11-13 and Nov. 16-20. Tickets are $6 for the public and
$1 for BYU-Idaho students. They may be purchased by calling the BYU-Idaho
Ticket Office at 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
The
production tells the story of Nick Cristano,
played by Adam Pingel of Post Falls, who has
lived his entire life down the street from both sets of his grandparents,
played by Brady Moss of Canby, Ore.; Kjersti Parkes of Riverton, Utah; Christian Busath
of Elk Grove, Calif.; and Kelleen Myers of
Rexburg.
Every
Sunday Nick would go “over the river and through the woods” to
his grandparents’ house for dinner. When Nick is offered a job in Seattle, his grandparents
are devastated and go to great lengths to get him to stay. They even invite
Caitlin O’Hare, an attractive young woman, played by Kristi Bates, a
senior from Idaho Falls, over for their
routine Sunday dinner with hopes of him staying in New Jersey.
“It’s
the universal struggle to become independent,” said John Bidwell, the play’s director. “Yet at the
same time, there’s an obligation and love we feel for family. Once
we’re on our own, we begin to understand how much we love our
families.”
Bidwell defines the play as a comedy with poignant
moments. “If we’re successful, you’ll be laughing through
tears,” he said.
