The Brigham Young University-Idaho Symphony Orchestra will debut the

composer Daniel Gawthrop featuring Mormon Tabernacle
organist Richard Elliott in both Rexburg and Salt Lake City.
The
Rexburg performance will be Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. in the Ruth H. Barrus
Concert Hall of the Eliza R.
Snow Center
for the Performing Arts. Tickets

may be purchased by calling the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at 496-2230 or

The
symphony orchestra will also present this program Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle on Temple
Square in Salt Lake City.
Although the concert is free, tickets are recommended. For free tickets
call 1-801-240-0080 or visit http://www.lds.org/events.
Standby seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The
original piece was commissioned by BYU-Idaho to celebrate the renovation
and expansion of the 80-rank Ruffatti pipe organ
in the Barrus Concert Hall. Gawthrop
also wrote the oratorio “The Passion and The Promise” for the
BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Series in 2001.
Under
the direction of Kevin Call, director of orchestras and associate dean of
the College of Visual
and Performing Arts at BYU-Idaho, the symphony will perform another piece
by Gawthrop based on the hymn “Come, Come,
Ye Saints” entitled “A Latter-day Overture” and
“Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky.
Dallin Hansen, a new BYU-Idaho Department of Music
faculty member and Rexburg native, will perform the violin solo in
“Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” by Saint-Saens with the orchestra. He currently teaches violin, directs
the University Orchestra and performs with the Faculty Serenata
Strings Quartet.
