Sound Alliance and Vocal Union

to perform Nov. 6 at BYU-Idaho

 

 

            REXBURG, Idaho - Sound Alliance and Vocal Union will perform together Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium on the Brigham Young University-Idaho campus.

            The concert will combine big band jazz with vocal ensembles. Also featured will be vocal and instrumental solos, jazz combos, including piano, bass and drums.

            The music will include standard tunes and original jazz compositions like “Old Man River,” “Take the A Train,” “Cry Me a River” and others. The styles range from straight ahead jazz, to swing and improvisation.

            Sound Alliance, which has 17 musicians, is directed by Mark Watkins of the Music Department faculty. Their music includes many different styles from Duke Ellington to recent neo swing bands like the Brian Setzer Orchestra. They will be touring with Vocal Union in the spring.

            Vocal Union is directed by Nori Brower of the Music Department faculty. Composed of 12 singers, their music includes popular, big band and classic jazz. They perform solos as well as numbers for the full ensemble. Their tour with Sound Alliance will take them to Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

            Tickets are still available at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office. They are $2 for BYU-Idaho students and $5 for the general public.
