Australia’s Ten Tenors

to return to BYU-Idaho

After a one-year absence, The Ten Tenors from Australia will return to Brigham Young University-Idaho Saturday, Nov. 13, for a repeat performance of last year’s hit concert.

“We have never had such positive reaction to a concert as from The Ten Tenors,” says Don Sparhawk, coordinator of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series. “Young and old loved the show that seemed to hit a chord with all ages.”

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $12 for the general public and $5 for BYU-Idaho students. They can be purchased from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office in the Manwaring Center, over the phone at 496-2230 or via the Internet at http://www.byui.edu/Tickets/.

In 2002, The Ten Tenors leapt to international attention as the surprise guest artists at the Eurovision Grand Prix de la Chanson held in Kiel, Germany.

The press hailed the Tenors’ clever and virtuosic medley of the finalists’ songs as the highlight of the evening. Extensive tours quickly sold out as word spread that an exciting new musical force had arrived from “Down Under.”

The Ten Tenors are on their third North American tour, doing shows in eastern Canada, Colorado, Salt Lake City and Rexburg. After their tour, they will travel to Germany and the Netherlands where they have developed a large fan base, Sparhawk says.

Their music ranges from classic opera to classic rock, including everything from Italian love songs to music of the BeeGees and Beach Boys.

What has appeared to be an overnight success in Europe and the United States in the past few years was the result of years of touring the Australian outback towns. It was there that the group's obvious camaraderie developed and their unparalleled fusion of artistry, musicianship and comedy was born.

The ensemble formed in 1995 while the tenors were university students, studying for careers in opera. The Ten Tenors created and performed their first full-length show in 1998, while still full-time students, and were undertaking an intensive touring schedule in Australia before the completion of that academic year. The Ten Tenors have been a committed musical tour de force ever since.

Heroically striding through the classical tenor repertoire, swaying through the ballads of the Neapolitan crooners, and highlighting their youth with critically acclaimed performances of rock classics, The Ten Tenors and their unmistakable Australian charm have captured the hearts of countless fans worldwide.
