REXBURG
– Brigham Young University–Idaho has recognized three exemplary
employees for the Fall Semester.
The
three employees are Luwana Roberts, an office
assistant for the Music Department; Barbara Sharp, a secretary in the
Psychology Department; and Lori Woodland, the physical activities manager
for the Activities Program.
Roberts,
a Rexburg resident and native, says she has enjoyed her employment in the
Music Department because the students and the dedicated faculty.
“Saying
I love whom I associate with and the work I do is an understatement,”
Roberts said.
She
is a graduate of Ricks College
and Utah State
University. She served as a
missionary in the West German Mission and is a mother of seven children.
Sharp
has been a secretary at the university for 13 years. She was previously
employed in the Academics Department, but currently works in the Psychology
Department.
She
came to Ricks College
as a student and obtained her associate degree. Before returning to the university
as an employee, she worked for LDS Social Services and the Idaho Health and
Welfare Department.
“I feel very honored to be chosen for this award,” Sharp
says. “Every day I have the opportunity of working and associating
with many exemplary people.”
Woodland,
who is originally from Winnemucca, Nev.,
came to Ricks College
in 1985 to coach women’s basketball. In her 12 years of coaching, her
team won five region championships.
Following the transition to a four-year university, she
became the physical activities manager for the Activities Program, a job
which she has come to love.
“Working
with people of integrity and faith has been the highlight of my experience
in the program. Our association is fun and exciting. They
make my job easy and rewarding,” she said.
She
credits her recognition as an exemplary employee to her co-workers, “This
award is representative of the hard work and dedication of all those
working in the Physical Activities Program.”
The exemplary employee award is given
to two staff members and one administrator each semester. Employees are
nominated by their co-workers. The Employee Advisory Council then makes
recommendations to the President’s Council for the final selections.
Requirements
for nominations are that the employee must: exemplify the guiding principle
“Every person at BYU-Idaho is a teacher,” demonstrate a
positive attitude, be conscientious in performance of job duties, goes the
extra mile, and have been working for BYU-Idaho for a minimum of five
years.
