REXBURG,
Idaho – Boise
pianist Del Parkinson will return to Brigham Young University-Idaho
Tuesday, Oct. 12, to give a free concert in the Barrus
Concert Hall of the Eliza
R. Snow
Center for the
Performing Arts. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will not
be required.
Parkinson,
a former Ricks College faculty member who now teaches at Boise State University,
returns to BYU-Idaho every year to perform for the students and community.
The
Idaho Humanities Council, a state-based affiliate of the National Endowment
for the Humanities, will sponsor the event in addition to BYU-Idaho and
contributions of the Boise Cascade Corporation.
The
featured music will include “Variations on a Theme of Corelli,” “Vocalise,”
three etudes and four preludes by Rachmaninoff; “The Flight of the
Bumble Bee” by Rimsky-Korsakov; and Mussorgsky’s “Hopak.”
Parkinson
received postgraduate degrees from Indiana University
and Juilliard School of Music. He has performed with major orchestras, was
featured in a solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall, and continues to enjoy
an active solo and teaching career.
He
began teaching in 1970 at Indiana University, spent nine years teaching at Ricks College
and has been the professor of piano at BSU since leaving Ricks College
in 1986. He received numerous awards including the Fulbright-Hays grant for
graduate study in London, the Kellogg
Foundation grant for curriculum at Furman
University, the Idaho Commission
on the Arts grant for his New
York recital debut, and the Idaho Governor’s
Award for Excellence in the Arts.
