REXBURG,
Idaho — The BYU-Idaho Chamber Winds
and Brass will present a joint concert Friday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall of the Eliza R.
Snow Center
for the Performing Arts.
Tickets
are $2 for the general public and $1 for BYU-Idaho students. They may be
purchased by calling the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
The
Chamber Winds, under the direction of Diane Soelberg,
will perform two pieces: “Serenade No. 3 in C” by Joseph Haydn
and “A Quilting Bee—Four Diversions on American Songs”
arranged by Clark McAlister.
“This
will be a great evening of chamber music,” Soelberg
said. “The concert will be short enough to leave you wanting
more.”
The
Chamber Brass, under the direction of Bryce Mecham,
will perform a variety of pieces from “Fanfare to La Peri” by Paul Dukas to
“Summertime” by George Gershwin.
“A
large brass ensemble can achieve a wonderful range of dynamic levels and
moods, from a soft and sweet chorale to the most energetic and overwhelming
fanfare,” Mecham said. “Our program
for this concert makes full use of this range of expression.”
While
the two groups will not perform combined pieces, two horn players from
Chamber Brass will accompany the Chamber Winds on one number.
