Wireless Network Implementation
Information Technology is working to create a robust, pervasive wireless network on campus to support the laptop initiative.
The BYUI Wireless Network is currently available in the following buildings: Romney, MacKay Library, Smith, Kimball, Physical Plant Offices, Benson, Ricks, Ag Engineering and Philanthropies.
So far, the Women's dorms, Smith Building, and Ricks Building have pervasive wireless. The Benson building has about 60% pervasive wireless. Recently Information Technology has ordered enough equipment to provide pervasive wireless in the McKay Library, the Austin, and the Spori buildings.
The next phase of the project will replace wireless hotspots with more robust wireless technology in the remaining buildings: Snow, Spori, Kirkham, Clark, Hart, MC, Taylor, Health Center, Austin, Livestock Center and Hinckley.
The last phase of the project, which is scheduled for completion by summer 2009, will provide pervasive wireless for all academic buildings on campus.
