Present Tense, Irregular

Let’s look at two kinds of irregular verbs. Those that have irregular yo forms Those that have spelling or accent changes

Some verbs that have irregular yo forms but are regular in the other forms.

ver has an e in the yo form. veo ves ve vemos ven

These verbs add a g in the yo form only. hacer     hago salir       salgo traer       traigo poner      pongo caer        caigo

Conjugate hacer. hago haces hace hacemos hacen

Conjugate salir. salgo sales sale salimos salen

Conjugate poner. pongo pones pone ponemos ponen

Conjugate traer. traigo traes trae traemos traen

Conjugate caer. caigo caes cae caemos caen

tener and venir take a g and are stem-changers

tener tengo tienes tiene tenemos tienen

venir vengo vienes viene venimos vienen

decir takes a g and is an e>i stem-changer. digo dices dice decimos dicen

-cer and -cir verbs add a z.

conocer conozco conoces conoce conocemos conocen

traducir is similar. traduzco traduces traduce traducimos traducen

You do conducir. conduzco conduces conduce conducimos conducen

The yo form of these verbs don’t end in -o. estar         estoy ser            soy dar           doy ir              voy saber        sé haber        he

You already know dar. doy das da damos dan

ir is very similar voy vas va vamos van

The stress in estar is on the ending. estoy estás está estamos están

ser is very irregular soy eres es somos son

saber is only irregular in the yo form. sé sabes sabe sabemos saben

haber is irregular he has ha hemos han

Some verbs have spelling or accent changes in the present tense.

oír and -uir verbs add a y before a strong vowel.

construir construyo construyes construye construimos construyen

Do destruir. destruyo destruyes destruye destruimos destruyen

Conjugate incluir. incluyo incluyes incluye incluimos incluyen

oír also adds a g. oigo oyes oye oímos oyen

variar is an example of verbs needing accents. varío varías varía variamos varían

reír is another example río ríes ríe reímos ríen
