NEGATIVES

A negative word before the verb makes the sentence negative.

All indefinites must change to negative. Voy.                                   No voy. Siempre toman leche.        Nunca toman leche. Alguien come tiza.             Nadie come tiza. También estudias.              Tampoco estudias. Estudias algo.                     No estudias nada.

A negative word must precede the verb, but another negative may follow. No voy tampoco. No  toman leche nunca. Nadie come tiza tampoco. No estudias nada.

The personal a is used with alguien & nadie when they are direct objects. Veo a alguien.          No veo a nadie. Busco a alguien.       No busco a nadie. But . . .    Alguien nos ve.       Nadie nos ve.

Alguno and ninguno become algún and ningún before a masculine singular noun. Algún día vas a comprender. No tengo ningún libro. Algunas chicas están bailando. Ninguna chica baila.

Ningún and ninguno are not used in the plural. Algunos de los chicos cantan. Ninguno de los chicos canta. Ningún chico canta. Ninguna chica canta.

The negative of  o... o  is ni… ni. O Juan o María viene. No viene ni Juan ni María. But . . .    Ni Juan ni María vienen.
