Are you a Dependent Student?
For
the 2006-2007 academic year, if you answer "No" to
every question below you are considered a Dependent
Student for Financial Aid purposes and you must use use your
parents income and other information on the FAFSA.
If
you can answer "Yes" to at least one of the questions
below, you are
considered to be an Independent student for Financial Aid
purposes, this means that you are NOT required to include your
parents income information on the FAFSA.
• Were you born before Jan. 1, 1983?
• Will you be enrolled in a master’s or doctorate program
(beyond a bachelor’s degree) at the beginning of the 2006-2007
school year?
• Are you married as of the day you apply (or are you separated
but not divorced)?
• Do you have children who receive more than half their support
from you?
• Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse)
who live with you and who receive more than half their support
from you at the time you apply and through June 30, 2007?
• Are both your parents deceased, or are you (or were until age
18) a ward or dependent of the court?
• Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces? (A veteran
includes students who attended a U.S. service academy and who
were released under a condition other than dishonorable. For
