Steps to Receive Federal Financial Aid

Step 1. Read the following information

• The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step to apply for Pell Grants and/or Student Loans.
• If you qualify, the Pell Grant will automatically be awarded.
• If interested in student loans, there are additional steps to complete. See Step 5 below.
• If you are engaged to be married, contact our office for more details on how and when to apply for federal student aid.

Step 2. Request a PIN from the Department of Education.

• The PIN serves as your signature on the electronic FAFSA.
• If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will also need to request a PIN.
• If you have lost your PIN, you can request a duplicate copy.

Step 3. Collect the documents you need.

• If you lost your tax form, you can request a duplicate copy from the IRS.

Step 4. Apply Now!

 

• You may print and complete a paper Pre-Application Worksheet before you begin the FAFSA.
• The BYU-Idaho Title IV code which is required on the FAFSA is: 001625.

Step 5. Watch for the results of your Financial Aid application

• Check your BYU-Idaho Email Account periodically for financial aid information.
• Complete the Financial Aid Projection form
• A Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Department of Education will be mailed or e-mailed to you.

Step 6. Money will be sent to the BYU-Idaho Accounting Office.

• Tuition, Fees, On-Campus housing, and Meal Plans will automatically be deducted from your award.
• To have other campus charges deducted automatically, you must answer "Yes" on the Title IV authorization form.
• Click here to view your BYU-I account online.

Step 7. Pick up remaining money at the Cashiers Office located in the Kimball Administration Building.

• The Cashiers Office located in the Kimball building is open Monday-Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
