Faculty Responses

The Spori Summit Conference was very uplifting and an inspiring experience. New friendships were kindled, the sharing of techniques and experiences provide a new insight into delivering the promise to teach effectively. However, I feel an application phase of the principles taught need to be reported back to the facilitators in order to insure a worthwhile experience.

If you want to have a revitalizing and top-notch experience with wonderful colleagues and facilitators, this summit is for you. I feel like I can start back into the classroom more focused and refreshed. The Spori Summit has helped me to re-evaluate my teaching priorities aiming for true understanding and wisdom for my students. More than anything it has served as a wonderful reminder of how blessed we are to be teachers at Ricks College and how great it is to pull from each other’s strengths.

Just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to be involved with such a great program. The insight into what the faculty is and can be was tremendous. I have always felt a little in the woods as an administrator without a home because I’m not to heavily involved with my group (not by choice.) I appreciate the chance to broaden my understanding. The representative group that was there speaks highly through their actions for the caliber of the whole. Thanks again for the opportunity and the information. Let me know if I can do anything to assist you cause in the future.

I think the program was handled well. As an administrator and not classed as faculty, this gave me some insight into problems and successes with this large group of people. I enjoy the spirit and cooperation. The ability to meet new people of a variety of discipline’s was helpful. I can go back and use these ideas gleaned to better associate with staff and students. This type of opportunity helps to solidify the "Spirit" of Ricks.

This was an inspiring experience. I agree that the strength of Ricks has been, is, should be, and will be unity. This experience has been extremely effective in making me feel part of the group. I feel love and respect for those faculty from other departments/disciplines. I understand their challenges better. I respect their abilities and insights more. I have felt the spirit they’ve shared with the group. I’ve felt their love for their subjects, their love for their students, their love of the gospel, their love of life, their love for their families, their love for Ricks. I’ve felt that they love me as a Ricks colleague, a friend, a fellow teacher. Even more than other conferences, the experience here has been upbeat and uplifting. I don’t feel intimidated but inspired by them. I want to go back and be a better teacher like them, like the best in all of us. This summit brought out that we all can be great teachers if we can bring out the best in us.

The experience was wonderful getting to know other faculty personally and professionally, having teaching ideas reinforced, and learning new ideas for improving my teaching has been ver valuable.  I am rejuvenated and ready to go back into my classroom now and influence my students.
The teamwork activities have been good.  I especially enjoyed this morning's activity involvoing our concept of an exceptional teacher.  It was risky for me, but valuable.
The Spirit of the Lord has really been present in all we have done.  Thanks for allowing the Spirit here.

The most significant experience of the Teaching Summit was to interact with other faculty members feelings, their love, their commitment to teaching, and their desire to impact the lives of other people. Our mutual interaction at the summit impressively, modeled how we individually and collectively teach one another. I was profoundly persuaded that all the individuals at the summit desired to perpetually learn, and to love. I was convinced that we must effectively bear one another’s burdens, lightening them through faculty sharing and mutually teaching each other. Sharing at the summit lightened my burdens and my perceptions.

Thank you for making my experience at the Summit a treasure that I will value forever. All of you contributed in your own way through words and examples to touch my heart and bless my life. I will carry with me the "feelings’ that I had there, and I know that this experience will help my teaching reach new levels. Thank you for sharing you expertise and lover with me. What a wonderful opportunity it is to be here at the summit and to be among great educators. What better way is there to become better at teaching then to associate with experts and to gain and learn and grow! I not only had a wonderful time, I know I can take ideas back to my classes that will make learning for the students much more rewarding. I have been at other institutions where training and development were very important, However, this training has something that the other didn’t— the Holy Ghost to guide and direct our development. Thank you for this blessed opportunity. As a final note, never, never, never, take for granted our professional obligation to our Ricks College Students to do all we can to become better educators.

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic. This opportunity to socialize, philosophize, and share ideas in a non teaching environment was so beneficial for me. To think that Ricks College would invest so much in me as a teacher is wonderful. I would attend every year just for the motivational boost I received. I would like to return as a participant or facilitator some day.

The Jacob Spori Teaching Summit has been an enjoyable learning experience. Not only have I learned more about teaching, but I feel I have gained new friends that I can utilize for help whenever I need it. I would recommend that the summit remain small in number (15-18) because it is a lot easier for many people to open up their thoughts and feelings in smaller groups. It is refreshing to be among people close to the spirit and feel the spirit in the work field. Thank you for the fun experience and the good food!

I loved the commaderee. It has been fun. I would like at least a brief explanation of the object lessons. They are so good. Especially if Jerry is here, a nature walk together would have been fun

I just wanted to thank you again for the Summit experience. Of all the things we do at Ricks for the faculty development, I believe this is the most beneficial. If I can help in any way in the future (facilitator, etc.) just let me know.
The combination of direction and flexibility in activities worked really well’ there was a sense of leadership as well as of freedom to explore and challenge ideas. I really enjoyed this aspect of the summit.
The genuine concern, commaderee, warmth, and sharing was wonderful. I felt prompted and even a bit uncomfortable at times, both of which are spiritual prompting’s. It’s good to work with such genuinely good people. I can’t think of any negatives right now—just glad I could come and grateful to be at Ricks.
