Purpose:

The purpose of the Jacob Spori Teaching Summit is to promote instructional success and to review instructional challenges; to encourage our teachers to stretch beyond the limits of their own disciplines and teaching styles; to promote self-appraisal and confidence building; and to celebrate our teaching heritage inherited from Jacob Spori and many other great teachers.

How the Summit Works:

The Jacob Spori Teaching Summit will be patterned after the successful format of the Great Teacher's Seminar.  There will be no experts invited from the outside and the schedule will use a rigid minimal structure.  The success of the Great Teacher's Seminar is based on the premise that faculty themselves are the essential resource needed to strengthen each other in their teaching professions. College faculty tend to be more receptive to instructional input from other teachers. Faculty from different disciplines, representing various interests and experiences, create instructional ingenuity.  Share previous summit participants' experiences on the Faculty Response site.

Details on Upcoming Summits:

Thirty faculty are invited to participate in the summit each semester.  Check out the dates and times of upcoming summits by clicking here.   After assembling on the campus on Thursday at noon, the group will eat their lunch as they travel to the Teton Basin.  A detailed outline of each summit's activities may be viewed on the Jacob Spori Summit Schedule.  The first day's activities will feature introductions and teaching successes from all of the participants.  Structured games and activities will take place after supper.  Friday's agenda will highlight classroom challenges and practical, creative solutions. The evening hours will be open, featuring a variety of options available around the community and the mountain slopes! Saturday's schedule will focus on teaching models that originate from the thoughts and creative expressions of the participants.  The summit will come to a close with a lunch as the group returns to campus by 1:00 PM on Saturday.  Lodging, meals, and snack breaks will be provided throughout the 3-day summit.
