The English Department offers many opportunities for student employment. You may work as a Teacher Assistant to a member of the faculty or, if you've got computer skills and the desire to learn more, as an I-Learn Faculty Assistant .

 

Teacher Assistant

Description

 

 

 

A Teacher Assistant will focus primarily on clerical tasks but may be asked to participate in limited teaching. The TA will not award numerical or letter grades.

Salary

$7.35 / hour; 5-20 hours / week

Qualifications

 

 

 

  • English Major
  • English 111 and 251
  • May be currently enrolled in Eng 430

Advantages

Preparation to work as a Faculty Intern.

Duties

Clerical duties such as:

  • Checking student journal entries
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations
  • Acting as a Blackboard administrator
  • Working on faculty projects
There may be some opportunity to:
  • Attend class
  • Respond to student papers
  • Participate in limited teaching and research

Prerequisites

 

No credit earned. Must keep a weekly journal and write a final two-page reflective paper.

I-Learn Faculty Assistant

Description

 

 

 

An I-Learn Faculty Assistant must be self-motivated with moderate to advanced skills with computers willing to assist faculty members with technical issues relating to I-Learn and other applications.

Salary

$7.75 / hour; 14-20 hours / week

Qualifications

 

 

 

  • English major/minor preferred
  • Strong writing skills
  • Computer skills

Duties

Technical duties such as:

  • Assisting faculty with online classes
  • Creating tutorials in Captivate
  • Acting as a Blackboard administrator
  • Working on faculty projects
  • Maintaining English department Web site
  • Answering faculty questions regarding computer applications
  • Creating media for teachers

Prerequisites

 

No credit earned. Must be willing to learn new programs quickly.
