Continuing Ecclesiastical Endorsement

LDS Students

Annually, each student planning on continuing at Brigham Young University-Idaho  beyond the winter semester will be required to obtain a continuing endorsement from the bishop of the ward the student resided in during the winter semester before registering for any subsequent term or semester. Campus bishops may do the electronic Ecclesiastical Endorsement or the paper version. Students attending wards outside of Rexburg or off track  may obtain a form at the Student Honor Office or online at: http://www.byui.edu/StudentHonor/Continuing%20Endorsement.htm . The bishop certifies that the student is abiding by the Honor Code, the dress and grooming standards, and is fulfilling his/her duty in the Church by attending Church meetings and abiding by the rules and standards of the Church. Frequent absences from Sunday meetings in the student’s campus ward to attend farewells or other meetings may jeopardize the student’s attendance requirements.

Non-LDS Students

An endorsement may be obtained from the LDS bishop of the ward the student resides in during the winter semester, his/her own ecclesiastical officer, or the Student Honor Office.

Ecclesiastical Endorsement - Withdrawal

Any student who is denied a continuing ecclesiastical endorsement may request a review by the stake president over the ward he/she resided in during the winter semester. An administrative review by the Student Honor Office may be made in the event the decision by the stake president is adverse. There are two grounds for administrative review by the Student Honor Office:

1. The student claims proof of compliance with the applicable standard of conduct in question.

2. The student believes there exists mitigating factors which, in fairness, should allow for continued enrollment at the college in the absence of a continuing ecclesiastical endorsement, i.e., close to the end of the semester or very near completion of an academic program.

Continuing Ecclesiastical Endorsement

Any  student planning to continue any studies beyond winter semester (April 2008) is required to obtain a continuing endorsement prior to being permitted to register for any upcoming term or semester.   This also includes any touring groups, internships or off-campus courses sponsored by the university.  Students must  receive their endorsement from the Bishop of the ward they resided in during winter semester.   Endorsement forms will be available to Bishops of campus wards, from the Student Honor Office or may be printed from the link below.

Endorsements will not be accepted over the phone, and it is the students responsibility to contact his/her Bishop and see that the endorsement is completed.
