The United States government recognizes that there is a severe shortage of CIT graduates from universities. Many government grants and scholarships are now available because of this. Take a look at some:

Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service (SFS) |
Tuition, and books for up to two years of undergraduate-, master's-, or doctorate-level study. In addition undergraduates receive an annual stipend of $8,000. The stipend for graduate students is $12,000. |
While this scholarship is currently not available for undergraduate study at BYU-Idaho, it is available for those going on to pursue a master's or doctorate degree, be a full time student, be willing to pursue studies with an emphasis in information assurance, be a United States citizen, meet criteria for Federal employment; and be able to obtain a security clearance. You must serve at a Federal agency in an information assurance position for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship or one year, whichever is longer after graduation. |

U.S. Department of Energy: FaST Program |
Student team members will receive funding assistance with travel and housing. Up to $1,000 additional support may be requested for extraordinary travel expenses. |
The Faculty and Student Teams (FaST) Program is a cooperative effort between the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Women, and minorities underrepresented in the fields of science, engineering, and technology are encouraged to apply for the FaST program. Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien, at least 18, and enrolled as an undergraduate. Must have 2.5 GPA and have health insurance. |

Collegiate Inventor's Competition |
Undergraduate winner or team will receive s $15,000. Grand Prize is $25,000. |
This is a competition for inventors. There are all sorts of submissions. Students must be enrolled (or have been enrolled) full-time in any U.S. or Canadian college or university at least part of the 12-month period prior to the date the entry is submitted. |

Microsoft Undergraduate Scholarships |
Up to 100% tuition for the following academic year. Awarded students are required to do a salaried 12 week summer internship at Microsoft |
Students majoring in Information Technology or other computer related degree with at least a 3.0 GPA. A large majority of the scholarships will be awarded to female students, underrepresented minority students, and students with disabilities, but all students are eligible. |
