Quotes from IBC students of Fall 2003

Having just completed IBC, I know a lot more about it than when I first head of it. Before enrolling, I understood it to be some insane 12-credit class, with a lot of zealous business majors who were all learning to be the worlds' greatest businesspersons, all stuffed in the little theater....I know now what IBC is all about and feel I have learned some things that have changed my life.

Russell Cheney

I really feel that the IBC experience that a person will have depends on what they put into it. If they put a lot of time and effort into it, they will get great results. If they slide by doing the bared minimum they will not get the full experience that they could get...I loved the IBC.

Brandon Hillstead

I often refer to the IBC as a roller coaster; I think it truly was the. Some days it was a high, everyone was happy, sales were up, colors of blankets were great, meeting went smooth. Then the very next week most people wanted to quit, terrible weather, bad sales, and even worse communication. That was the story of the semester. It was an absolutely amazing, eye opening experience.

Quotes from IBC students of Fall 2002

I enjoyed the IBC experience because I was able to meet new friends, learn new concepts, and take part in a successful student company that benefited the lives of hundreds of students and parents...I was amazed by the creativity, teamwork and continual efforts by each member of our company.

Jon Knight

Reflecting back on this semester there seems to be so much to say. I'll be honest, I had my doubts about the IBC. I had only heard positive things, but still there was something inside me that made me hesitant to this new style of learning. I didn't know that I can share all that I've learned or adequately share what feelings I have about this past semester. There have been many things that I am grateful for, not all of which were easy to deal with...

Jacob Curtis

So you want us to just start a business? Well, what do you want us to sell? How do you want us to get our product? How do you want us to sell these things? Who are we supposed to sell these things to? And we are actually supposed to make money doing this? Those were only a few of the unanswered questions that I, and the majority of the other IBC students, felt after the first few days of class. We never did get any of those questions answered by the teachers like we were used to. But we came up with our own answers, and did O.K. while figuring those things out.

Seth Owen

IBC has been a great experience for me. I really don't think there is anything about it that I would change, except that maybe I would sit a little closer to the front it wasn't so easy to get distracted during class. I have had a lot of special experiences during this semester, but I would like to focus on a few specific ones that have taught me the most. I've learned a lot about teamwork, how businesses work, dealing with people in a real business environment, and about my future...

Quotes from IBC students of Winter 2002

"The IBC has been a fantastic experience. I really think that this has been the best business hands on experience that I have ever had in and educational environment. One thing that I really value about this class is the friends and acquaintances that I have been able to make through the entire business experience...The greatest thing about the whole experience is that we all got along and we developed relationships that I feel will not wear out. I'm excited to take the rest of my senior classes with these guys whom I have become acquainted with in this IBC class."

Michael Hammond

"This semester has by far, without question been my most memorable one here BYU-Idaho. I guess the most obvious sign that it's been so awesome is that this is the first semester that I can honestly say I'm sad it's ending....For me it has been the first time where I've been able to really see how each course we take interrelates and how important each course is in business. There is no busy work in the IBC, I felt like the professors weeded all that stuff out and really tried to focus on what is like Brother Shiley would say is "the big picture....The greatest part of the learning is being able to start up a business with other students and really have to apply the knowledge that we're gaining into a real-life experience."

Mike LeBaron

"The experience in the IBC can't compare to any school experience I've had at BYU-Idaho or in any other school setting. The ability to learn principle and then have opportunities to apply them is priceless. Working in teams helps you develop skills that you can't develop on your own. You learn to put trust in others to help accomplish your final goals. The IBC was a great experience that will be remembered forever."

Jason Watson

"I thought that IBC was the best experience that I have had in my college career. One of the reasons for this was the fact that it was difficult, but also the fact that we got to practice what was preached to us."

Jason Heck

This semester has been a learning experience to say the least. Coming into the IBC program was something I did with a little bit of hesitance. I didn't know if I like the idea of having teh same classes with the same people every day or if I would like to start my own business. At first this took a little be of getting used to. Now that I have adjusted to the same people and the same syllabus for four classes I love it. It is going to be really hard for me to go back to the typical college routine."
