| New Student Checklist |
If you’ve already been admitted to BYU-Idaho, congratulations! We look forward to having you on campus. Your experience at BYU-Idaho will prepare you for lifelong learning, employment, and for your role as an involved citizen, church member, and parent. This checklist and other information you’ll receive in the New Student Guide (mailed to new students following admission to BYU-Idaho) will help walk you through the next steps in the process of getting started.
- Submit the Three Track questionnaire: After receiving your admission letter, go to http://web.byui.edu/admissions/trackresponse to submit a questionnaire used in determining your track assignment. You will be required to log in with your NetID and password. For more information about track assignments, visit www.byui.edu/admissions/tracksystem.htm.
- Accept Admissions Offer: Access www.byui.edu/response to accept your admission offer and track assignment and set up your BYU-Idaho e-mail address. You will be required to log in with your NetID and password.
- Review Get Connected Schedule: Review the Get Connected schedule online at www.byui.edu/getconnected and make the necessary travel arrangements to participate.
- Log in to http://my.byui.edu. This page will help you start using your BYU-Idaho email account. Email is the official method of communication of BYU-Idaho. You’ll also find financial, advisor, and other information on this page.
- Apply for financial aid: Visit www.byui.edu/financialaid to find out what kinds of financial assistance you may qualify for. This page also has information about scholarships as well.
- Select student housing: Student housing options can be found on the BYU-Idaho Housing office’s website, www.byui.edu/housing.
- Plan your course schedule: Start developing your four-year or two-year course schedule prior to the start of school. The Career & Academic Advising Center is the place to start. Visit them at www.byui.edu/advising. When you’re ready to start assembling a schedule for your first semester, take a look at class offerings for that semester by visiting www.byui.edu/registrarsoffice.
- Pay registration deposit: Pay the $60 registration deposit when you register for classes or in advance online at http://my.byui.edu (select ‘Personal Account’) or by phone: (208) 496-1080.
- Register for classes: Registration is done in order of earned credits. Check your registration date and other related information at www.byui.edu/registrarsoffice.
- Enroll in the “Introduction to BYU-Idaho” course (optional): General Studies 111 is a 1-credit block course that introduces you to the fundamental characteristics that should become part of every BYU-Idaho student. Click here to learn more:
- Reserve textbooks: Save time by reserving and purchasing your textbooks online from the University Store at www.byuibookstore.com.
- Submit Privacy/Grad Forms: Following your admission, you’ll receive correspondence from the BYU-Idaho Student Records & Registration Office explaining university privacy policies. If so desired, submit privacy and grade notification forms before beginning your studies. (See www.byui.edu/registrarsoffice for more information about these forms.)
- Submit insurance waiver: Students must carry BYU-Idaho insurance unless they are covered by their parent’s insurance plan or a group plan provided by their employer or a spouse’s employer. If you qualify for the waiver under these terms, you may submit the insurance waiver online at http://my.byui.edu.
- Check in at your housing complex: Move into your housing complex on the Move-in/Student Services Day which is posted online in the Get Connected schedule at www.byui.edu/getconnected.
International Students
- Pay Sevis I-901 Fee: Visit www.fmjfee.com (You will need your I-20). Print your receipt.
- Apply for an F-1 Student Visa: Apply at the U.S. consulate or embassy in your country. (Canadians do not have to apply for a visa.)
- Plan your travel: Plan to arrive no more than 30 days before classes begin. Plan to check in with the International Services Office within two weeks of arrival. (Failure to check in may result in problems with employment, immigration status, etc.)
