CES Instructors

BYU-Idaho places a strong emphasis on seminary and institute attendance and recommendations. As we continue the ongoing effort to attract and admit applicants who are spiritually and academically prepared, we encourage instructors to be descriptive in their recommendations, giving a perspective of the applicant’s character and attitude as much as possible.

Seminary:

If a student is continually lacking in attendance, please share any information you may have as to reasons for absence. While seminary graduation is not mandatory for admission to BYU-Idaho, admission is significantly more difficult for those who do not graduate; where possible, make-up work is encouraged for students who have missed large amounts of time. To be applicable, make-up work should be submitted prior to the application deadline for the student’s desired beginning semester.

Institute:

Students who have graduated high school are encouraged to attend their local Institute of Religion. Applicants coming from another college or university are required to submit an Institute recommendation as part of the application process. BYU-Idaho encourages off-track students and those completing internships to attend Institute while they’re away from campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

At BYU-Idaho, seminary is one of the most important parts of the application. While seminary graduation is not mandatory for admission, it is substantially more difficult for a non-graduating seminary student to receive admission. Again, students whose ability to graduate is in question should contact their Instructor to find out what makeup work can be done. Please see the introductory section above for more information.

Very important. Each teacher’s comments are read as part of the admission review. Comments help clarify the other data and give the Admissions Committee an opportunity to know what the student’s personality, effort, and contributions have been from the Instructor’s point of view. Please be descriptive in your comments. If you express reservations on an applicant’s recommendation, you will be contacted for more information.
