Students are provided with spiritual nourishment through weekly devotional addresses from Church and CES leaders. Students are also held to a strict honor code regulating dress and conduct. All student-housing belongs to a ward or a stake where ecclesiastical leaders minister to spiritual needs and students participate in Family Home Evening groups.
The Rexburg Temple, located within walking distance of campus and estimated to be completed in late 2007, promises to be another important element in students’ spiritual development.
Unlike most faculty at four-year universities, BYU–Idaho professors have no research requirement and no faculty rank. Instead focus is directed completely on the science of teaching and learning by the spirit. Class sizes are kept small (average 1 teacher to every 25 students) in order to give students more access to their teachers. Small class sizes create a very involving learning atmosphere, wherein students are active participants rather than spectators. Teachers hold students to high academic standards and expect them to perform at the best of their abilities.
Through academic societies, internships, and placement services, BYU–Idaho students are given opportunities to gain hands-on experiences which prepare them to lead successful careers in their chosen fields. For more information, please see these links:
