The Campus on the Hill: Life at BYU-Idaho

Spend just a few moments at Brigham Young University-Idaho and you will likely notice the presence of a unique spirit that makes the campus unusually warm and welcoming. It is called the "Spirit of Ricks" and is a treasured campus tradition of service, hard work, friendliness, and compassion. It is a characteristic that has defined this campus since its earliest days, and is one of the most inviting aspects of studying at BYU-Idaho.

Approximately 12,000 students attend BYU-Idaho, hailing from all 50 states and more than 60 countries. About half of the student body has served as full-time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and over one-fourth are married.

All BYU-Idaho students agree to live by a Code of Honor that reflects the beliefs and teachings of the Church. The Code of Honor emphasizes being honest, living a chaste life, abstaining from alcohol and tobacco, using clean language, and following other values encompassed in the doctrines of the Church. The code includes additional guidelines on dress and grooming.

Weekly campus devotionals provide students and employees with spiritually uplifting messages from Church leaders and other speakers. The student population is organized into a number of campus stakes and wards, providing Sunday services and ecclesiastical leadership.

The BYU-Idaho campus includes about 40 major buildings and residence halls on over 400 acres. Since the transition from Ricks College, new buildings have been constructed and others have been renovated or expanded.

BYU-Idaho's home, Rexburg, is a comfortable community in agriculturally rich eastern Idaho. The area is blessed with abundant natural beauty and a number of outdoor recreational opportunities including Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson Hole.
